About this role The Laboratory Technician (Mechanic) is part of Carrier’s Charlotte’s expanding laboratory team , this position plays a crucial role in chiller modifications for new product development projects. Prototype assembly requires a skilled mechanic capable of handling low and medium complexity tasks with minimal supervision, while maintaining a high regard for safety . Given the nature of this work—where procedures may not always be clearly defined—the Laboratory Technician (Mechanic) should demonstrate adaptability, problem-solving skills, and a dedication to workplace safety. The Laboratory Technician (Mechanic) must successfully obtain a certification for working at heights , including harness fall protection training. The successful completion of the overhead crane certification for safe handling of equipment is also a requirement. Military candidates who worked in mechanical roles are also invited to apply . Key Responsibilities Modify and assemble test chillers according to engineering directives Use powered hand tools for cutting, drilling, and grinding Use impact guns and wrenches to do mechanical fastening Braze copper refrigerant tubing inline with Carrier-certified production standards Use physical labor to place components within chiller structures Interpret and follow assembly drawings to assemble/disassemble the final products Support lab maintenance activities that are deemed priority Basic Qualifications High school diploma or GED 2 plus years of experience in brazing, cutting, drilling and grinding of metals Able to perform physical labor activities i.e. bend, lift (~ 30 lbs.)
