Description:
Performs laboratory analysis onreceived specimens, providing clinical information for diagnosis,treatment, and prevention of diseases. Responsible for overallquality, efficiency, and safety in the performance of assignedtechnical duties. Demonstrates proficiency and follows testingprocedures and policies by adherence to quality assuranceguidelines for equipment and work area. Documents correctiveactions to any non-conforming event. Prepares reagents andmaintains an adequate supply of materials for test procedures.
Manages inventory to effectively reduce departmental waste andexpense. Exercises clinical judgment in assessing priorities whileidentifying, problem-solving, and offering solutions to testsystems through appropriate channels. Contacts specialists totroubleshoot when necessary to resolve issues or to set up servicewhen appropriate. Assists with review and revision of proceduresand documentation related to accreditation. Adheres to allregulatory requirements for various authorities, including but notlimited to CAP, TJC, and OSHA. Maintains clear, real-timecommunications shift-to-shift and with leadership regarding issuesthat may affect patient care or the operation of the department.
Participates in planning and implementing change throughparticipation in staff meetings, task forces, or projects.
Participates in the competency assessment program, where qualified.
Works in a fast-paced clinical environment containing biohazardousmaterials along with chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards. Dutiesmay involve standing, walking, stretching, stooping, bending, andlifting light (20 pounds) to moderately heavy (50 pounds)loads.
