The Department of Pharmacology consists of 13 full-time faculty members, nine full-time research technicians, three postdoctoral scientists, two full-time administrative staff, and 13 graduate students. The department teaches pharmacology, therapeutics, and toxicology to medical, dental, graduate, and nursing students. A wide variety of specialized courses are also taught for graduate students. The educational objective of the department is to provide a sound basic foundation upon which medical and dental students may build rational approaches to drug therapy regardless of the area of clinical specialization. The graduate program through the Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacology and Toxicology Concentration, is broadly based to prepare students for careers in academics, research, government, industry, and medicine. Job Duties The Research Technician will assist in executing experiments, including but not limited to: Sample preparation, data collection, and analysis related to environmental research;
Molecular biology techniques include transformations, protein expression, purification, SDS-PAGE electrophoresis, and ELISA;
Analytical characterization techniques, including mass spectroscopy;
Animal handling, including oral gavage, tissue dissection, and routine care/husbandry;
Processing and analyzing human samples for research studies;
Laboratory troubleshooting, protocol optimization, and problem-solving to ensure successful experiments;
Routine laboratory maintenance includes cleaning, organization, and proper sanitation procedures; and,
Maintaining accurate and detailed records of all work performed. Minimum Education/Experience Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. License or Certification required by statute or regulation N/A Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education Experience in a laboratory or research setting.
Experience with laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
Experience observing, collecting, and recording data.
Knowledge of lab safety and sanitation procedures.
Experience in animal handling.
