$40,495.10 – $52,643.64 A Research Technician position is available immediately at Albany Medical College in the laboratory of Dr. Sophie Belin and Dr. Yannick Poitelon to study the development of myelin and how myelin is targeted in genetic, traumatic and acquired disorders. Our studies utilize a variety of approaches, including molecular biology (PCR, qPCR, Western blot), ultramicrotomy and immunohistochemistry, glial and neuronal cell isolation, behavioral testing or motor and sensory functions, therapeutic application of ultrasound. Under the direct supervision of Dr. Belin and Dr. Poitelon, the research assistant will become competent in many of these techniques.
Responsibilities:
In addition to becoming proficient in laboratory techniques, the research technician will also be expected to manage the research mouse colony, including animal husbandry and genotyping, perform general lab maintenance (e.g. purchasing and maintaining inventories of lab supplies), assist with training new lab members, and aiding in completing lab experiments.
Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Psychology, or related discipline required Highly motivated and organized Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Possess excellent oral and written skills, and have a positive and open mindset Molecular and cellular biology expertise and/or a background in development, genetic would be beneficial Willingness to work with mice is essential
Timetable:
We are looking for a full-time employee (40hrs per week), starting April 2025. For applicants in their senior year of B.Sc. or B.A., we are willing to accommodate part-time employment until graduation.
