Lab Technician Job Description The Laboratory Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the satisfaction of customers, team members, and vendors by performing tests on production and finished product samples. This role is essential in maintaining compliance with
FDA, NYS
regulations, and internal standards, supporting the manufacture of dairy-related products. Responsibilities Achieve goals in production, safety, quality, performance, and cost. Notify others of mechanical malfunctions to enhance productivity and equipment capabilities. Comply with GMP’s, SOP’s, corporate and plant policies, rules, and regulations. Provide assistance across production areas as assigned and build competence in key production areas such as fillers and forklifts. Gain competence on line circuits and ensure proper hookups in the facility. Cover breaks, lunches, and other staffing needs as assigned. Comply with all legal requirements related to dairy processing and safety, reporting concerns to the supervisor. Work safely and report safety concerns promptly, taking corrective actions as necessary. Report food safety problems and support SQF by maintaining food safety and quality. Ensure work areas are sanitary and adhere strictly to sanitation practices. Communicate effectively between shifts and departments. Conduct and evaluate product testing results to ensure compliance with standards. Release compliant products from hold on the computerized inventory management system. Inspect and verify the sanitary condition of processing lines and conduct ATP swabbing and visual inspections. Validate vitamin additions and batching sheets for processing departments. Maintain cleanliness of work areas and equipment. Communicate openly with the Quality Control Team and plant personnel. Conduct microbiological, chemical, and sensory testing as scheduled. Perform bacteria/shelf life testing on fresh and stressed samples. Maintain laboratory logbook and Hold/Disposition Log for the shift. Log and send out COAs as testing completes. Complete Titratable Acidity (TA) tests using all methods. Conduct allergen testing as required. Perform sterile sampling of tanks and report results timely. Complete and report product testing using tally and Product Testing Record. Perform cryoscope testing on milk products. Verify product labeling accuracy. Conduct EQA testing and shelf life sensory testing. Perform butterfat and solids testing using appropriate equipment. Conduct product sterility testing on samples received. Update log and results for Product Hold and Disposition Log and follow up as needed. Utilize LIMS system and verify analytical, sensory, and microbiological testing. Essential Skills Ability to apply mathematical concepts for handling job tasks and inquiries. Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English to perform job functions. Knowledge of the company’s mission, purpose, goals, and personal role in achieving them. Ability to operate facility equipment as required. Completion of all company training requirements. Ability to interpret company documents, literature, and UPC/code information. Additional Skills & Qualifications Minimum of GED or High School Diploma required. Associates degree in dairy/food sciences or equivalent preferred. 1-2 years’ experience in a similar food industry lab setting preferred. Work Environment Day and night shift available. Days are 6AM-6:30PM Sunday-Wednesday with every other Wednesday off, and night after 6PM-6:30AM Sunday-Wednesday with every other Wednesday off. The role demands availability for morning, afternoon, and overnight shifts any day of the week based on the assigned schedule. Employees must report to work in business and position-appropriate attire, complying with GMP dress code standards. The work environment focuses on maintaining safety standards and ensuring a clean and sanitary workspace.
