Job Description:

The Coordinator of the Biological Learning Center supports student learning and academic success in biology by overseeing operations at both campus locations. This role works in close collaboration with the Biology Department Chair and faculty, providing instructional support, managing lab review materials and equipment, and supervising tutoring and student workers. The position ensures an organized, welcoming, and educationally enriching environment for students engaging with biological sciences outside of the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Support & Instructional Resources Assist students in locating and using study materials: instructor notes, models, review assignments, DVDs, slides, and websites.
Help students navigate computers, educational software, and instructional visuals (models, charts, diagrams).
Set up topical demonstrations and “Practice Practical” exams per faculty requests. Technology & Equipment Maintenance Maintain and update anatomical models, microscopes, specimens, and reference materials.
Maintain Learning Center computers and coordinate technical service/updates as needed.
Contribute to the ongoing development and upkeep of the department website. Operations & Scheduling Collaborate with the Department Chair to determine operating hours (semester, exams, intersessions).
Monitor on-site peer tutoring and ensure adherence to established procedures.
Keep detailed records of center usage and submit timely reports (monthly, semesterly, annually). Supervision & Collaboration Hire, train, and supervise work-study students.
Coordinate with faculty to identify new instructional strategies or resources.
Communicate with Biology Technical Assistants and departmental staff regarding supplies and work orders. Communication & Administration Respond to phone calls, emails, and written inquiries in a courteous and helpful manner.
Ensure a safe, respectful, and policy-compliant environment.
Administer departmental challenge exams and support additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:
Education Required:

Associate’s degree with one year experience or Bachelor’s in Biological Science.

Experience Required:

Relevant experience in the teaching/learning environment, good communications, organizational and computer skills.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

Strong organizational ability.
Experience with educational technologies and their integration into traditional instructional methods.
Ability to effectively establish and maintain working relationship with supervising personnel, co-workers, all college employees and the public.
Ability to manage multiple projects.
Must be able to travel between the college’s two campuses and other sites.
Bilingual Skills.

Salary:

 $44,100-58,434 per annum; commensurate with experience. This is a Staff & Chair, Grade 30, 12 month position.
