Job Description

Lab Technician Job Description The role involves developing operating procedures and performing tests for water and wastewater treatment operations. Key tasks include conducting jar tests to optimize chemical dosing, performing bench and pilot scale evaluations, and testing ion exchange resins, carbon adsorption, and filtration systems. The technician will also be responsible for collecting data, operating small-scale equipment, preparing samples, and performing various laboratory analyses. Responsibilities Develop and optimize chemical dosing through jar tests. Conduct bench and pilot scale evaluations. Test ion exchange resins, carbon adsorption, and filtration systems. Collect and measure operating conditions such as pumping rates, pH, ORP, temperature, and pressure. Operate and maintain small-scale equipment like pumps, heaters, and mixers. Prepare samples and reagents for testing and in-house lab analyses. Perform laboratory tests including DO, color, temperature, ORP, alkalinity, hardness, TSS, TDS, COD, TOC, turbidity, and phosphorus/phosphate. Pull samples for third-party laboratory analysis. Maintain reagents, lab inventory, calibration records, and SDS documentation. Manage and communicate data effectively. Ensure cleanliness of lab equipment and operating areas. Essential Skills Proficiency in laboratory, chemistry, and wet chemistry techniques. Ability to work precisely in solution making, measuring, data handling, and instrument operation. Experience with standard laboratory instruments such as pH meters, TSS probes, HACH spectrophotometer, analytical balances, and volumetric glassware. Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or a related field. Skills in titration, reverse osmosis, quality control, and quality assurance. Additional Skills & Qualifications Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. Strong communication skills with team members. Demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn and take on more responsibility. Detail-oriented and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Work Environment The work schedule may include staggered and rotating shifts, including potential night and weekend work as the lab experiments ramp up. The environment requires flexibility and the ability to adapt to a dynamic schedule.
