Technician must be able to work with minimal supervision. Understands laboratory sample collections, processing and storage requirements for in-house testing and referral lab testing. Possesses the ability to organize workload for maximum efficiency, accuracy, and to help maintain the quality of patient testing. Maintains lab equipment and analyzer and organizes all paperwork. Adheres to COLA and API testing. Ability to maintain good patient relations and handle difficult situations in a lab collection center. Responsibilities Specimen Processing, Test Ordering, and Daily Tasks 1. Opens and closes laboratory daily. 2. Daily Cals and QCs analyzer. 3. Follows the physician order when ordering tests 4. Handle specimen processing, preanalytical inspection of specimens for identification and integrity 5. Performs various types of laboratory test(s) on patient specimens, evaluates test results, and report/enter/verify test results in Laboratory Information System. 6. Performs and evaluates periodic quality control per policy and procedure 7. Ensures that lab test requisitions are accurately completed and follows-up for additional information if needed 8. Orders tests into the LIS accurately and in a timely manner 9. Calls the physician or ordering facility with any questions regarding the lab test orders. Patient and Client Relations 1. Professional and courteous to patient and clients at all times 2. Provides patient with preparation and collection instructions for lab testing 3. Helpful to patients and clients in answering question and follow-ups as necessary 4. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times Safety, OSHA, and Biomedical precautions 1. Disposes biomedical waste according to OSHA standards 2. Utilizes PPE as needed 3. Works within safety policies and procedures define by lab protocol 4. Maintains the lab in a safe and clean manner Other 1. Performs Quality Assurance reporting as assigned by supervisor 2. Adheres to infection control procedures at all times 3. Follows all departmental safety policies and reports safety hazards to supervisor 4. Attends OSHA, Biomedical Waste, and any other training as necessary 5. Notifies supervisor of any inventory issues Requirements Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field; certification preferred. Strong knowledge of physiology, laboratory management, and clinical procedures. Experience with laboratory information management systems is highly desirable. Familiarity with aseptic techniques and safety protocols in a hospital or clinical setting. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Excellent communication skills for interaction with healthcare professionals and patients. Previous experience in a laboratory setting or participation in clinical trials is a plus.
