Job Description
Laboratory Technician Spectra Tech, Inc. United States, Tennessee, Memphis Jun 24, 2025 Spectra Tech, Inc. is hiring several Laboratory Technicians in Memphis, Tennessee.
Purpose:
To perform precise and accurate laboratory testing on a variety of samples (e.g., raw materials, in-process, finished product, environmental samples) to ensure the quality of inputs and outputs of all cream yeast and packaged products.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform microbiological testing (e.g., aseptic plating, pathogen testing for Salmonella and Listeria)
Conduct chemical and physical analyses (e.g., moisture, protein, phosphate, starch, salt, specific gravity, Brix, NIR)
Analyze wastewater streams and biobed (TSS, COD, VFA, sludge profile, alkalinity)
Execute yeast sensory testing (odor, color, texture)
Sample raw materials and plant process points
Prepare media, reagents, and inoculate culture vessels
Conduct quality checks on finished product and coordinate external lab samples
Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot lab equipment
Document and report lab data (manual and electronic entries)
Interpret results and manage nonconforming product holds
Prepare Certificates of Analysis and approve product releases
Use SPC tools to monitor and communicate data trends
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment
Train peers and implement new techniques
Manage inventory and ordering of lab supplies
Perform general housekeeping and additional assigned duties
Education & Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a science-related discipline
Experience:
None required
Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices and aseptic sampling
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office (LIMS experience is a plus)
Physical ability to walk, stand, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a lab environment with yeast aromas
Preferred Qualifications (Assets): Experience with ISO 17025, GMP, or HACCP
Familiarity with SPC tools and software (e.g., Minitab)
Exposure to Lean Six Sigma principles
