Job Description:

Under general supervision, to provide nursingcare to patients based on the nursing process, UAB HospitalStandards of Nursing Care, and UAB Hospital policies and procedureswhile ensuring quality of care. To orient patients and familymembers to surrounding environment, acting as a patient advocate.

To collect patient assessment data and notify RN of potentialproblems. To evaluate patient s response to care and reportfindings to RN, document delivery of patient care, effectivelyrespond to emergency situations, demonstrate positive interpersonalskills, meet patient s educational needs, and serve as a role modelto other members of the patient care team.

QualificationsGraduatefrom an accredited Practical Nursing Program or equivalentrequired. Work experience may NOT substitute for educationrequirement. Currently licensed or licensed by endorsement as aLicensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Alabama Board of Nursingrequired. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the AmericanHeart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, AdvancedCardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric AdvancedLife Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) maybe required.
