Unit Details :

The Hospitalist/Acute Care for Elders (ACE) 2 Unit or “Highlands 4 North” is a 23-bed acute care unit located at UAB Hospital-Highlands that provides care to post-surgical patients, as well as those transferred from the emergency department, ICU, or admitted from a physician office. This unit also provides care to some geriatric patients transferred from the ACE Unit. The ACE Unit is the very first of its kind in Alabama and is nationally recognized for addressing the health care needs of geriatric patients. Job Description :

Under general supervision, to provide nursing care to patients based on the nursing process, UAB Hospital Standards of Nursing Care, and UAB Hospital policies and procedures while ensuring quality of care. To orient patients and family members to surrounding environment, acting as a patient advocate. To collect patient assessment data and notify RN of potential problems. To evaluate patient s response to care and report findings to RN, document delivery of patient care, effectively respond to emergency situations, demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, meet patient s educational needs, and serve as a role model to other members of the patient care team. Qualifications Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing Program or equivalent required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed or licensed by endorsement as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
