Job Description Responsible for the evaluation of donorsuitability for automated pheresis procedures. Administration andsupervision of approved immunizations other than red blood cellimmunizations. Provides limited emergency medical care to donorsand staff, including the administration of medication or treatmentsin accordance with licensure or certification. Job Details

  • Promotes positive customer relations with all donors.
  • Conductsconfidential and effective interviews with donors to obtainnecessary information regarding suitability to donate plasma.
  • Inconjunction with the Center Medical Director and/or CenterPhysician responds to medically related questions from staffincluding donor suitability and provides information to staff onmedically related issues.
  • Performs medical history reviews andhealth assessments on donors. Assesses results of donor screeningand laboratory tests to determine initial and continuing donorsuitability.
  • Notifies and counsels donors regarding reactive testresults. Refers donors to community facilities for follow-up andcounseling.
  • Explains informed consent to applicant donors. Thisincludes explanation of procedures, hazards and potential adverseevents; explanation of immunization schedules, dose and antibodyresponse; providing clear opportunity for donor to refuseparticipation; obtaining signature and date certifying informedconsent.
  • Handles medical emergencies at the Center by providingroutine care as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);elevates situations to Center Physician or local medical serviceproviders as required. Periodically checks emergency kits to assuresupplies are present and in-date.
  • Reviews test results anddetermines continued donor suitability.

Follows SOPs regardingacceptable ranges of four-month required test (PE/STS) reports.

Maintains knowledge of and apply all rules regarding four-monthapprovals and grace periods.

  • Assess signs and symptoms a donormay exhibit that may result in the inability to continue donating
  • Manages employee hepatitis B and influenza immunization program,including administration of immunizations.
  • Understands thepolicies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs atthe center where applicable, and oversees donor immunizationprograms. Reviews antibody titer results as required. Maintainsawareness of appropriate immunization schedule for each antigen.
  • Ensures the accurate recording of donor data in the electronicdonor information management system as outlined in the SOPs.
  • Maintains clean efficient work environment, and ensures sufficientoperating supplies and forms are available as needed. Follows allHealth Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety andHealth Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures. Promotessafety in all actions. May conduct routine audits of these internalprocedures and documentation.
  • Maintains confidentiality of allpersonnel, donor and center information.
  • May be cross-trained inother areas to meet the needs of the business.
  • Bilingual skillsmay be required, at the discretion of the organization, to meet theneeds of the business.
  • Perform other job-related duties asassigned.

Education Graduation from a paramedic, nursing, physicianassistant, chiropractic, medical school or naturopathic medicaltraining program If graduation is from a foreign allopathic orosteopathic medical school, must also currently be licensed as aphysician or state certification as an emergency medical technicianExperience Minimum of one (1) year experience in a health careenvironment Experience in a plasma or whole blood collection centeror other regulated environment preferred Ability to make andanalyze a physical assessment of heart, lung sounds, signs of druguse, etc. Ability to instruct donors, staff and community regardingthe benefit of plasma donation programs Working Conditions(physical & mental requirements) Ability to make decisions, whichhave moderate impact on immediate work unit.
