Job Summary The MDS Nurse uses independent judgment inthe planning, organizing, directing, and evaluation of activitiesof the professional and supportive nursing staff engaged inresident plan of care. Evaluates care provided to each resident andkeeps care plans current. Is the direct lead in regards to theResident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process. MDS Nurse assists inassessment and evaluation of potential admissions. Upon admission,quarterly and annual, the MDS Nurse completes resident assessments.
Collaborates with the resident, family or advocate, otherinter-disciplinary colleagues, including providers, to assureongoing care of each resident to provide the best quality of lifepossible. When functioning on the floor, the Registered Nurse (RN)is responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment,diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) toprovide individualized nursing care to patients. The RNdemonstrates competency and practices within the full scope ofnursing expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age andpopulation specific standards as designated in their assignedclinical setting. The RN cares for residents in all phases ofpreventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, and treatment.
The RN is responsible for the coordination of care, residentassessment, resident education and various other nursinginterventions. The RN may serve as charge nurse and delegateappropriate tasks to licensed and unlicensed assistive personnelthat are within the job descriptions, skills, resident care needs,and the competence level of the delegate. As charge, the RNprovides adequate assistance and support to delegates to ensuresafe, reliable administration of resident care and resolution ofcare and service concerns. The RN functions within the scopes andstandards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Actand Administrative Rules in state of practice and licensure. TheProfessional Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards ofPractice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with InterpretiveStatements as published by the American Nurses Association as thefoundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct.
Qualifications Graduate from a National League of Nursing (NLN) orAmerican Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) accreditednursing program is preferred. Bachelor’s Degree in nursingpreferred. Minimum of one-year experience working as licensed nursewith the senior population preferred. Specific services/positionsmay have additional education, training or experience requirements.
Resident Assessment Coordinator-Certified (RAC-CT), management orsupervisory experience preferred. Currently holds an unencumberedRN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice ofnursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in aNurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Obtains and subsequentlymaintains required certifications and completes required continuouseducation units (CEU) and competency training.
