LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE POSITION SUMMARY
TheLicensed Practical Nurse (LPN) delivers quality care that isconsistent within the scope of practice as outlined by the localstate nurse practice act for Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses.
The LPN is responsible for tasks, activities and functions asdelegated and may make assignment of duties to others as defined intheir state of practice act. The LPN provides monitoring ofpatients as directed by the HSA, DON, RN, or Medical Director orother practitioner.
LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE MINIMUMREQUIREMENTS
Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursingprogram.
Currently licensed as a Practical Nurse in the state ofemployment.
Possesses an active CPR certification.
Remainsknowledgeable about specific state laws and regulations governingpractice.
Satisfactory completion of initial and annual clinicalcompetencies to demonstrate aptitude as assigned by role.
LICENSEDPRACTICAL NURSE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Utilizes a systematic approachto meet the health needs of each individual patient.
Implementsnursing care within the LPNs scope of practice. (Includescompliance with all laws as applicable in thepracticesetting).Assists in the development and implementation ofteaching plans based on the individual needs of the patient. Theplans should speak to health promotion, maintenance, andrestoration of health.
Cares for wounds with appropriate cleaningand dressing/bandaging.
Administers medications tooffenders.
Provides for the care of multiple patients as directed bythe Medical Director, DON, or Registered Nurse.
Monitors vital signsand reports changes to appropriate medical staff.
Documents actionsin the MAR and medical records.
