Job Summary The Licensed Practical Nurse(LPN) participates in the implementation and evaluation ofpatient/resident care for stable and predictable patients/residentsof all ages in the home care setting. Demonstrates knowledge ofnursing principles for the patient/resident in the relevant settingand possesses the ability to perform testing to assess datareflective of the patient’s/resident’s status and to interpretappropriately the information needed to identify eachpatient’s/resident’s requirements relative to the age-specificneeds, and to provide the care needed. Demonstrates competency andpractices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge andutilizes appropriate age and population specific standards asdesignated in the home care setting. Ensures the health, comfortand safety of patients/residents. Knowledge of the principles andskills needed for nursing to provide patient/resident care andtreatment. Knowledge of medications and their effects onpatients/residents. Knowledge of patient/residents educationprinciples to develop a self-care program. Knowledge of commonsafety hazards and precautions to establish a safe environment,specific to the home setting. Skill in administering a variety oftreatments and medications as directed. Qualifications Graduatefrom an accredited practical nursing program as a LicensedPractical Nurse. If position requires IV therapy/management skills,the following is required in
North Dakota:
graduation from a Boardapproved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculumor completion of an IV Therapy course approved by the North DakotaBoard of Nursing. One year of professional nursing experiencepreferred. Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse(LPN) license with State Nursing board and/or possess multi-statelicensure privileges. Obtains and subsequently maintains requireddepartment specific competencies and certifications. Depending onlocation, a valid drivers license may be required.
