SCHOOL OVERVIEW THRIVE
is a school unlike any other•one of the first boarding schools in the country serving at-risk students. The mission of THRIVE is to empower students from underserved Louisiana communities and prepare them academically and personally for success in college and beyond. THRIVE aims to reach this goal through a world-class school in a boarding setting. Serving grades seven through twelve, THRIVE will provide the students and families of Louisiana with a never before-seen service•a free public boarding school. By combining the best educational methods with a 24-hour supportive environment, THRIVE seeks to provide students with a place to learn where nothing can get in the way. Responsibilities Maintain all prescription medications in a secure setting Distribute medications to individual pill containers Provide training and oversight to staff who distribute medication Contact parents for medication refills Develop system for taking medication in, tracking and logging it Provide injury and illness assessments for students sent to the nurses office Check-in as indicated on IHPs with chronic students Offer flu shots to staff and students annually Inventory and order OTC medications and basic medical supplies Provide annual vision screenings to students as well as when issues arise Provide annual hearing screenings to students as well as when issues arise Provide health screenings as needed for students as a part of the IEP process Work with the Director of Special Education to write IHPs for all students with medical conditions Provide staff training needed for chronic condition management Maintain all documentation for IHPs Follow-up with parents about IHPs as indicated Ensure all students are enrolled in Medicaid if eligible Keep records of all student insurance policies Confirm all immunizations and work with families to get needed immunizations Correctly document for Medicaid reimbursement Correctly document and chart all student health care Collect, organize and distribute medical information as needed Also includes any other duties as assigned Qualifications Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) required Previous experience working with low income children preferred Commitment to a collaborative approach to student health Previous experience with Medicaid billing Ability to understand complex systems Ability to seek out and learn information and work independently Extremely organized Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create lasting relationships Accountability This position is accountable to school’s Director of Student Health & Wellness Schedule This position works Sunday•Thursday, 1pm•9pm, with some reasonable flexibility
