Functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in the Medical Clinics, consisting of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses and medical assistants. Should have a deep appreciation for a collaborative care model, partnering with Mental Health Service and Wellness and Health Promotion, and a commitment to advancing the divisional priorities of commitment to quality, communicating a sense of home, and designing with everyone in mind, and cultivating a working relationship with Our Lady of the Lake Health. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a current Louisiana Practical Nurse license, a temporary permit, or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state plus two years of experience as a licensed practical nurse. Job Specification This position may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18. This position will require a physical evaluation based on the physical demands required. Safety and security-sensitive positions are defined as those positions where any form of substance abuse may affect University activities through unsafe work behavior/performance or error in judgment; or where substance abuse could jeopardize the safety and well-being of employees, other personnel, or the general public, or cause significant damage to University property. This includes positions requiring firearms, access to controlled substances, handling hazardous material, operating heavy equipment or machinery, etc. These positions are subject to drug screens per

Job Duties and Other Information 40

  • Performs nursing duties, including administration of PO medications, intramuscular injections, inhalation therapy, topical applications, specimen collection as well as various orthotic brace applications. Collects VS, assists with patient intake requirements for the Primary Care Clinic, including mental health and psychiatry, the Sexual Health and Gynecology Clinic, and the Specialty Clinics. 30
  • Performs skilled nursing to assist providers in examinations and procedures such as laceration repair, incision and drainage and toenail removal. Performs Point of Care testing including HCG, Strep, HIV, CBG and ECG. Communicates with providers and Registered Nurses regarding patient’s physical condition and behavior. 20
  • Effectively uses electronic health record for documentation, immunization verification, coding, billing, student communication and scheduling. Follows proper procedure for maintaining confidentiality of protected health information. 5
  • Attends regular meetings; completes required training, performs inventory and stocking of treatment area and participates in quality improvement activities. 5
  • Other duties as assigned.
