JobSummary The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professionalnursing care for residents of all ages in long term care, under thesupervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, orphysician. Demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for theresident in the relevant clinical setting. Demonstrates competencyand practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledgeand utilizes appropriate age and population specific standardsrelated to the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident asper care plan. Possess the ability to perform testing to evaluatedata reflective of the resident’s status and to provide the careneeded. Demonstrates ability to recognize problems, recommendsolutions and respond effectively to assist in an emergentsituation. Ensures the health, comfort and safety of residents.
Contributes to the assessment of residents and administersmedications or treatments as ordered. Provides technical support tohealthcare professionals as needed. Documents resident interactionsas needed and the outcomes related to resident care, medication,behavior, activity, and dietary. Skilled in establishing andmaintaining effective working relationships with resident, healthcare providers, and the public. Ability to work effectively withprofessional and supportive personnel as a member of aninterdisciplinary care team. Ability to communicate clearly andmaintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Counselsresidents, family members and/or resident advocate, under thedirection of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider orphysician on prevention and treatment plans. Knowledge of residenteducation principles to develop a self-care program. Performs otherrelated duties as assigned. Qualifications Graduate from anaccredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Associate degree in practical nursing is preferred. If positionrequires IV therapy/management skills, the following is required in
North Dakota:
graduation from a Board approved AASPN program whereIV therapy is part of the curriculum or completion of an IV Therapycourse approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing. Must haveattended a pre-licensure nursing program that included supervisedclinical experience across the life span as part of the curriculumor have had a minimum of 400 hours of experience as LPN at anotherfacility. Specific services/positions may have additionaleducation, training or experience requirements. Currently holds anunencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with StateNursing board and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges.
Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specificcompetencies and certifications. Completes required annualcontinuing education units (CEU) and competency trainingrequirements of the department and facility.
