Essential JobFunctions:
- LPN provides basic nursing care such as checking bloodpressure, inserting catheters, and helping comfort patients byperforming tasks such as changing and dressing
- Document accurate andongoing assessment of patient status: Document patient care, includingnursing intervention, patient response to care provided, patient needs,problems, capabilities, limitations, and progress toward goals
- LPNcommunicates with RNs and physicians regarding patients’ needs
- Collaborate with other nurses and health team members to ensurepatients’ wellbeing
- Teach patient/significant other appropriatehealth information in a timely manner and share written informationalmaterial, as applicable.
- Perform direct patient care, usingestablished procedures, policies, and standards
- Prepare and administermedications according to policy and procedure.
- Observe and documentpatients’ responses to pertinent medications.
- Demonstrate ability tohandle emergency situations in a prompt, precise, and professionalmanner.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
- LPNsperform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports,evaluations, charting, etc., as necessary.
- Receive phone orders fromphysicians and record on the Physician’s Order Form.
- LPNs chart allreports of accidents/incidents involving residents. Follow establishedprocedures.
- Verify the identity of each resident before administeringthe medication/treatment.
- Ensure adequate medications, supplies, andequipment are available. Report needs to DON.
- LPNs ensure narcoticrecords are accurate for your shift.
- Notify DON of all drug andnarcotic discrepancies.
- Give a thorough, concise report at change ofshift. Communicate pertinent information to the appropriate person in atimely manner.
- LPNs perform all job responsibilities in accordancewith safety and infection control policies and procedures, includingthorough hand washing, use of disposable gloves where indicated andproper disposal of soiled materials.
