The Registered Nurse (RN)maintains the delivery of quality care by assuring the nursing careplan is followed. The RN supervises Licensed Practical Nurses,Certified Nursing Assistants, and orientees. Based on the CompetencyProgram established for direct care providers, possesses the skillsand competencies necessary to perform job function in accordancewith population served criteria. Performs a nursing assessment onall patients within 8 hours of admission. The data collected formsthe basis of an individualized plan of care. Identifies teachingneeds and goals related to the diagnosis of each patient from thenursing admission assessment and by collaborating withpatient/family and the Interdisciplinary team. Responsible andaccountable for accurate, succinct and timely documentation of allassessments, interventions and patient’s response in the medicalrecord in accordance with policy. Participates in the patientrehabilitation program on an assigned unit. Is responsible andaccountable for direct patient care by utilizing the nursingprocess of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patientcare with a priority on the education of thepatient/family/significant other based on the health care needsidentified. Uses a positive and encouraging approach to achievepatient goals and quality outcomes. Initiates discharge planning onall patients from the day of admission. Communicates all pertinentinformation regarding changes in patient’s status from one careprovider to another, to support continuity of care and patientsafety. This includes the attending physician and the Charge Nurse.

Seeks consultation from more senior nursing staff in support ofcomplex clinical decision-making. Provides direction, training andsupervision of ancillary nursing personnel by utilizing problemsolving techniques in decision making, organizing, settingpriorities and using time effectively. Provides for and assurespersonal and environmental safety in accordance with hospital andnursing policies and procedures. Positively contributes to thefunctioning of the unit by providing calm direction and reassuranceto ancillary staff, other departments, patients and families.

Participates in team building activities on the unit to create apositive and efficient work environment. Maintains communicationwith manager and senior nursing staff related to service needs suchas necessary supplies, equipment (including repairs) and clinicaltraining in order to effectively complete assigned duties. Providescare in a cost-effective manner while promoting quality patientoutcomes, monitors supplies and charges. Prioritizes activities andplans for effective use of time and staff in meeting patient needs.

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Related experience inClinical Applications preferred.
