Job Description SummaryMUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is anentity within the Medical University of South Carolina thatprovides healthcare to patients within the rural health networkthroughout the state of South Carolina. Under the direction of a registered nurse is responsible for allidentified nursing care behaviors within his/her span of controlduring his/her tour of duty and is accountable to the Charge Nurseand/or designated individual. The LPN participates in the care of adefined patient population. The LPN assists with data collection,formulation of plans for patient care, and participates withevaluation of outcomes of nursing actions.

- -Provides patient/family centered care, acting aspartner and adviser, assists and supports patients and families tooptimally manage their health care, respecting their culture andvalues, individual needs, health goals and treatment preferences.
Applies critical reasoning and astute clinical judgment in order toexpedite appropriate care and treatment, especially given that thepatient may be present with complex problems or potentiallylife-threatening conditions. Uses critical thinking in clinicalproblem-solving relative to the scope of practice, knowledge,competency, and experience. Assists medical staff with preparation,examination, and procedure to include interviewing/screeningpatients to obtain personal data and chief complaint, documentationfor records, and vital signs. Performs telephone and in-personscreenings. Participates in recording and reportingresponsibilities; documents findings relevant to patient’s healthcare status or plan of care, documents accurately and consistentlyin accordance with approved policies/procedures. Prioritizes anddocuments patient incoming phone calls, as assigned, regardingmedications, medical conditions, and reviews with provider asneeded for orders or changes. Cleans and stocks examination roomsand/or other supply areas. Documents all patient care delivered inthe medical record according to the medical center policy.
MinimumEducation and Experiences
- Graduation from a recognized LicensedPractical Nursing program and licensed as an LPN within the stateof South Carolina or a compact state
- One year of LPN experiencepreferred.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either acertification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS forHealthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an AmericanRed Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and HealthcareProvider.

- Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb.
patient thatcannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from anotherhealthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force are needed to push a 400 lb.patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force are required topush a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes.
- Ability tosee and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance.
- Abilityto match or discriminate between colors.
- Ability to determinedistance/relationship between objects; depth perception. Ability tomaintain hearing acuity, with correction.
- Ability to performgross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements.

- Ability to work overtime as required.
- Abilityto work in a latex safe environment.
- Ability to maintain tactilesensory functions.
