The schedule is Monday – Friday, 8a-5p. The Clinical Assistant is responsible for providing and coordinating orthopedic patient care which includes performing routine office procedures and testing, participating in patient teaching, communicating effectively with others, and partnering with the physician/mid-level provider in the delivery of patient care.

Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of EMR (Epic) Ability to triage patient telephone calls. Gather pertinent facts; be as accurate and concise as possible to assess patient health status and act as liaison between patient and provider. Ability to clearly and effectively educate patients, families and staff regarding the full scope of patient care needs related to the care of patients with orthopedic problems. Communicate effectively and clearly. Respond well to questions with patients, physicians/ mid-level providers and co-workers.

Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited program for medical assistants, athletic training, or nursing Or Experience plus certification For information regarding eligibility for certification please visit: https://www.nhanow.com/Eligibility# https://americanmedtech.org/certification/get-certified CMA/RMA must be registered/certified through one of the following national organizations: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National HealthCareer Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or American Medical Certification Association (AMCA) EMTs will need Emergency Medical Technician certification. National Certification is accepted, following guidelines set forth by the National board that State certification is required upon recertification. ATCs will need to be board certified as Athletic Trainer New graduates are welcome Travel to other OC locations may be required.

A Typical Day:

A typical day for the clinical assistant involves collaborating with and providing clinical and administrative support to the healthcare practitioner to ensure the delivery of high quality, compassionate patient care. The clinical assistant greets patients as they escort them to the exam room. They obtain and document past medical/surgical histories, vitals, patient medications and allergies in the EHR system (EPIC). This role assists the practitioner with patient examinations, treatments, and in-office procedures, in addition to cleaning and sterilizing rooms and equipment after each encounter. Some day-to-day tasks include suture/staple removal, assisting with casting/bracing, and assisting with injections. A pivotal job function for our clinical assistants is to educate patients through booklets/instruction sheets prior to minor procedures in accordance with physician instruction. This position will also orchestrate administrative duties which may include ordering supplies, stocking rooms, responding to patient messages, prescription refill requests, filing documents, and monitoring work queues in the EHR system. Additional requirements as a Clinical Assistant include: Graduate of an accredited program for medical assistants, nursing or a college degree in a related field Current certification or registration as a Medical Assistant, current nursing license, ATC Board certification New graduates are welcome 2 -3 years of clinical assistant experience preferred Employee Type Regular Qualifications Skills Education High School (Required) Certifications CPR – Other Language Work Experience Clinical Experience
