out of 5 stars Maryville, TN 37804 Under broad supervision, provide assistance to public health nurses and county programs. Provides general direct nursing care. Care includes providing medical treatments, administering medication, and giving injections. Assigned to specific clinical duties within the scope of an LPN practice in public health and acts as lead worker over specified projects or programs. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Adheres to the organization’s policies and procedures; Administers immunizations to all age patients according to established guidelines & procedures; Performs annual immunization audits; Completes quarterly reports; Assists with annual scoliosis screenings; Participates in health fairs and educational programs; Performs TB screenings and administers PPD skin test, in clinic and outreach events; Prepares to respond to public health emergencies and responds as directed; Uses computer technology to collect, store, and retrieve data; Participates in program planning; Delivers lab submissions; Communicates in writing, orally, and through electronic means, with proper terminology and cultural proficiency; Incorporates strategies for interacting with persons from diverse backgrounds (e.g., cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, gender, age, ethnic, sexual orientation, professional, religious affiliation, mental and physical capabilities); Uses individual, team, and organizational learning opportunities for personal and professional development; Cross trains to provide supportive duties as backup coverage; Assists with working up patients, including but not limited to vital signs, medical history, and medication review; Manages medication and vaccine inventory; and Performs other assigned duties. It is mandatory for public Licensed Practical Nurse to: Perform BLS (Basic Life Support), CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), and other emergency responses; Implement licensed practical nursing care for ill, injured, infirmed (or preventative care) while adhering to the medical orders prescribed by a licensed physician or dentist under the direction of a licensed physician, dentist, or professional registered nurse; Routinely maintain tactful and professional conversations with others; including while being confronted with controversial and/or emotional situation while administering care for ill, injured, and infirmed patients and/or concerned family members; Maintain organized working space, projects, and assignments; Thrive working in a dynamic public health environment that requires adaptation to changing goals, priorities, and needs; and Bolster and sustain a professional demeanor with citizens, patients, colleagues, and other agencies using calm, kind, and effective communications.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK

Currently licensed as a practical nurse with the State of Tennessee; Or holds a privilege to practice in the State of Tennessee under the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC); and A valid motor vehicle operator license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, reach and manipulate objects, tools and/or controls. The position requires mobility. Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Duties may involve assisting ill, injured, or infirmed patients of varying weights in their home environment and/or clinic environment. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating medical and office equipment, such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator and similar machines. The position requires hearing, mental acuity, speaking, and visual acuity.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Most work is performed in a well-lighted, modern public health care setting with centrally controlled heating and air conditioning. Some work is performed in private homes and/or at public health mobile sites throughout the County.
