FOOTHILLS WEIGHT LOSS SPECIALIST A
Division of Premier Surgical Associates Certified Medical Assistant Summary of Duties:

Responsible for providing professional nursing care to clinic patients under physician supervision.

None Essential Functions:

Provides nursing care to patients. Obtains certain medical information, history, physical, family, and social history. Take vital signs and weight. Assists physicians with examinations, diagnostic procedures, treatment, and office surgery. Documents all activities, interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed or prescribed etc. in the medical record. Monitor and contact, via telephone or registered mail, patients who miss appointments and are not abiding by bariatric binding contracts. Provides patient education materials, communicates physician advice and instructions for pre- and post-op teaching. Maintains patient records and charts. Post tests and examination results. Maintains exam rooms with necessary supplies. Ensures rooms are clean. Maintains and orders medical supply inventory. Screens patient phone calls and forwards them to the physicians. Pre-certifies, authorizes all scheduled surgery, and or diagnostic tests. Calls in prescriptions as directed by physician. Respond to phone calls from patients, pharmacies, hospitals, and surgery centers. Maintains strict confidentiality of PHI following Premier HIPAA policy and government regulation. Maintains strict confidentiality of employee information. Books, coordinates, and reschedules surgeries, and or diagnostic procedures. Ensures timely follow-up of all scheduled surgeries, and or diagnostic procedures. Maintain and load all scheduled surgeries in the scheduling system. Ensures all reports available for physicians during patient encounters. Bi-weekly pickup and delivery of physician boxes at Hospital. Any other duties assigned by the office manager, and or physicians. The jobholder must demonstrate current competencies and experience to the job position.

Education:
Current License Experience:

Minimum of one year of professional nursing experience, clinic experience preferred.

Requirements:
Certificate/License:

MA certification.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of basic nursing principles and protocols. Knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality. Knowledge of medical hart reports and records.

Skills:

Skill in planning, organizing. Skill in appropriate, assessment and assistance techniques. Skill in use of universal precautions, safe workplace and confidentiality. Skill in health information management and charting in electronic system.

Abilities:

Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff. Ability to appropriately interact with patients, families and physicians. Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands.

Physical/Mental Demands:

Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients and supplies, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing 40 pounds or more. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and/or working irregular hours. Must be able to use a variety of office and medical equipment.

Environmental/Working Conditions:

Combination of office and exam settings. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substance, medical preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Hepatitis B vaccination and TB test required.
