Job Description Summary:
The Massage therapist has the responsibility of providing skilled hands-on massage for scheduled members and guests of the LIFT Wellness Center. The massage therapist’s role is to use massage therapy to relax overworked and tired muscles, treat pain that results from any number of ailments, aid in the rehabilitation of athletic injuries and to support overall good health. This may include a variety of techniques including Swedish massage, reflexology, deep-tissue massage, acupressure, and sports massage modalities. The employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The massage therapist is responsible for greeting the client and bringing them to the designated massage area.
Before the massage begins, the therapist consults with the client and obtains a medical history to determine the massage indications, precautions, contraindications for the massage and to determine the modality needed.
The massage therapist is responsible for gauging the condition of the client’s soft tissues, joint function, and quality, range of motion and muscle strength.
The therapist will propose a specific treatment plan and establish that plan with the consent of the client.
The therapist is responsible for providing the massage modality and is to instruct the client to let him/ her know of any discomfort.
The massage therapist is responsible for respecting the wishes of the client at any time in regards to the modification of the treatment plan within the professional parameters as determined by the licensed massage therapist.
The massage therapist is responsible for communicating with or referring to appropriate medical professionals as needed to provide the proper treatment plan for the client.
These professionals may include physician, nurses, physical therapists, dentists, exercise specialists, athletic trainers, or occupational therapists.
The massage therapist should maintain written or electronic records of his/ her client’s medical history and massage treatments using the SOAP format.
Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent Graduation from an accredited school of massage therapy
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION
Licensed to practice massage in the state of Tennessee.
CPR/ AED
Professional liability coverage is recommended
EXPERIENCE
1 year of experience preferred.
