Videos Duties Medical Support Assistant:
The Supervisory Medical Support Assistant position serves as the direct line supervisor and is a foundional role within the VHA and is responsible for performing a variety of technical support duties th facilite the work of the medical facility who provide direct pient care. The primary duties of the Supervisory Medical Support Assistant (SMSA) may include but are not limited to: Responsible for initiing and carrying out a wide range of administrive functions associed with providing overall care and trement for all veterans and non-veterans reporting to the facility. Collabores with larger health care system providers including VA and non-VA specialists, hospitalists, diagnostic and treing facilities, and community based programs. Receives face-to-face and phone requests, orders with varying degrees of urgency and equipment issues th need tention. Operes effectively under a fast-paced and often changing conditions utilizing organizional skills by appropriely responding to and prioritizing work tasks. Responsible for the day-to-day workload flow, assuring th workload is assessed and distributed to assure timely accomplishment of tasks and assuring th each employee has enough work to keep busy and productive. Monitors stus of work in order to make necessary adjustments in accordance with established priorities. Obtains assistance from the Administrive Officer on unusual problems as they arise, including but not limited to backlogs, coverage issues and procedural problems th cannot be elimined or handled promptly. Assures on-the-job training for any new MSA in accordance with established policies and procedures. Participes in the collection of da and preparion of reports for Quality Assurance monitors. Responsible for oversight, assuring all general administrive functions are competed according to standards. Responsible for ensuring adeque scheduling of the unit/clinic and training staff and has full supervisory authority to address employee conduct and performance issues and completes recurring reports and performance evaluions in a timely manner. Participes on service and medical center committees and task forces to improve the quality of pient care. Identifies educional needs of staff and ensures th these needs are addressed.
Work Schedule :

Experience includes:
Utilizing pient systems to provide interdisciplinary support to multiple clinics, providing staff training, managing staff workload, following up on pending issues OR Performing supervisory duties including work assignments, performance evaluions, selection of staff, deleging authority, providing staff development, and overseeing people and programs in a pient support setting. (b) Assignment. Supervisory MSAs this level plan and direct programs medical centers and/or sellite outpient clinics. They have full responsibility for supervising least one subordine MSA team leader, supervisor, or equivalent administrive pient support staff in a non-VA medical inpient, outpient, or interdisciplinary setting. Assignments this level include but are not limited to: evaluing the work of subordine staff; resolving complex problems to ensure pient services are met; evaluing new products, equipment, and systems to make recommendions for improved operions; identifying educional or training needs; making final decisions on hiring selections; evaluing performance, and taking disciplinary action when necessary. The employee has administrive and professional responsibility for planning and directing the subordine lead, supervisor, and MSA’s activities. Responsible for extracting and analyzing da to provide reports to senior management in support of tracking measures. (c) Demonstred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.
