Certified Medical Assistant General Summary:

Responsible for preparing exam rooms, ensuring sterile technique, setting up patients, and assisting physicians, midwives, sonographers and other staff members as needed. Skilled to perform the following responsibilities. Required to travel to work in other offices as needed. Reports to Practice Manager. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

Other duties may be assigned:

1. Prepare exam rooms for patients, ensuring that the rooms are correctly stocked with supplies, instruments, lotions, gloves, drape sheets, gowns, etc. Exams rooms in all office locations are to be stocked in a similar fashion to ensure office efficiency, at the close of the office day. 2.

Prepare practitioner offices:

place provider nameplate on door, check that appropriate forms are available, if not in EPIC, see that offices are clean, mail is in MD office. 3. Check autoclave and bathrooms to ensure that they are appropriately stocked. 4. Replenish and stock exam rooms, practitioner offices and bathrooms throughout the day. 5.

Sterile technique expectations:

gloves are to be discarded as soon as a task is completed, replaced when appropriate. 6. Stock supplies when received in the appropriate area daily. 7. Room patients (weight, height, blood pressure, urine and any additional tests) per the practitioners’ instructions. Set patients on non-stress machine, update in Epic any changes to health or medications; order any labs, mammography reports, any reports not in EPIC. 8. Set up and assist practitioner with any office procedures. 9. Room patients for ultrasound procedures

  • weight, blood pressure, urine.

10. Dispose of medical waste when necessary. Discard expired medical supplies, samples, etc. 11. Complete letters for patients when necessary. 12. Maintain autoclave; clean and test monthly. 13. Keep ample stock of supplies for all procedures. 14. Scan pap log daily. 15. Update Culture Board for sent and received cultures. 16. Review and distribute/scan incoming paper labs and reports. 17. Assist with coordinating patient appointments for outside providers, testing, etc. 18. Daily maintenance of Refrigerator Temp Log.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Confident to maintain composure and skill in potential medical office emergencies: deliveries, allergic reactions, vasovagal responses, etc. 2. Understanding of HIPAA/ Patient Confidentiality as instructed by management. 3. Clear written and verbal communication skills. 4. Ability to persuasively manage patients in positive or negative situations. 5 . Ability to respond promptly to requests for service and assistance to patients, MDs, MWs and co-workers.

Required Proficiencies:

Medical equipment: autoclave, power tables, NST machines, microscopes, Urodynamics.

Insurance company access:

maintain active user names & passwords. EPIC

  • Proficiency in all required courses (Clinical 100/200). Outlook
  • Outlook & Outlook Web Access, create, send & receive email, use distribution groups. Trouble shoot network
  • with IT consultant, vendor and or practice manager.

3CX phone system —log in & out of group, transfer, voice mail, conference Printers, scanners, copiers: Utilize options such as scanning, printing duplex, various papers, etc. Office network : browse folders, send to network, print, and email.

Education and Certificate:

High School Diploma and Medical Assistant certification 2-3 years related experience and/or training CPR Training and recertification
