The ideal candidate would have experience in Orthopedics, with experience with casting and splinting, strong customer service skills, an interest in learning more. Responsibilities Patient intake and medical note documentation Clean instruments and equipment after use Assist physician’s with basic medical care and procedures Track lab results, call in prescriptions, and handle basic medical office duties Qualifications Certified or Registered Medical Assistant preferred Excellent customer service skills Strong attention to detail
Casting and Splinting Clinical Duties:
Escorting patients to exam rooms and accurately recording medical history. Assisting with documenting
Examinations and Procedures:
Supporting the physician during patient assessments, assisting with minor procedures. Patient Education, such as showing patients the proper way to don and doff removable splints.
Sterilization and Equipment Setup:
Collaborating with nurses to sterilize surgical instruments and equipment, and preparing the exam rooms by stocking necessary supplies.
Administrative Duties:
Scheduling:
Assist with Scheduling appointments, procedures, and surgeries for patients when needed.
Medical Records Management:
Maintaining and updating patient records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
Communication:
Facilitating communication between patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
Inventory Management:
Ensuring sufficient stock and checking expiration dates.
Skills and Qualifications:
Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required, and many employers prefer candidates who have completed an accredited medical assistant program, which may include a certificate or an associate degree.
Certification:
While not always mandatory, certification (such as CMA, RMA, or CCMA).
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, electronic medical records (EMR) systems, and basic computer skills is essential.
Clinical Skills:
Experience with preparing patients for procedures, collecting specimens, and assisting with minor surgeries is preferred.
Soft Skills:
Strong interpersonal communication skills, attention to detail, compassion.
Experience:
Previous experience as a medical assistant, preferably in a surgical or hand surgery setting is preferred but not required.
Work Environment:
Fast-paced:
A busy hand surgery practice requires the ability to work efficiently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Collaborative:
Ability to work closely with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.
