Videos Duties The Supervisory Medical Support Assistant (MSA) position serves as the direct line supervisor for all Medical Support Assistant (MSA) staff. The Supervisory Medical Support Assistant (MSA) responsibilities consist of but are not limited to: Supervises and supports Medical Support Assistants across various outpient clinics and settings. Coordines staffing, scheduling, training and performance management for clinic support teams. Develops and enforces standard opering procedures to ensure consistent and high quality pient support. Manages leave, overtime, and contingency plans to maintain adeque clinic coverage. Interpret and communice requirements of VHA Scheduling Directives and complete accure scheduling responsibilities and schedule appointments. Monitor Health Administrion Service orders (i.e. Return to Clinic, Consults, Encounters) Identifies and addresses workflow and productivity issues, ensuring efficient operions. Educes medical center employees and other VA personnel on the scheduling requirements. Leads team meetings, provides technical guidance, and overseas staff development and onboarding. Inspires, motives and guides others toward goal accomplishment; coaches, mentors, and challenges subordines; adapts leadership styles to a variety of situions; models high standards of honesty, integrity, trust, openness, and respect for the individual by applying these values to daily behaviors. Grandfhering Provision . All MSAs employed in VHA in this occupion on the effective de of this qualificion standard are considered to have met all qualificion requirements for the title, series, and grade held, which are a part of the basic requirements of the occupion. For employees who do not meet all the basic requirements required in this standard, but who met the qualificions applicable to the position the time they were appointed to it, the following provisions apply: Such employees may be reassigned, promoted, or changed to a lower grade within the occupion. Employees who are appointed on a temporary basis prior to the effective de of the qualificion standard may not have their temporary appointment extended or be reappointed, on a temporary or permanent basis, until they fully meet the basic requirements of the standard. Grade Determinions :

Supervisory Medical Support Assistant, GS-8 Experience . One year of experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level leading or supervising MSAs or equivalent administrive pient support staff in a non-VA medical inpient, outpient, or interdisciplinary setting. Assignment . Supervisory MSAs this level plan and direct programs medical centers and/or sellite outpient clinics. They have full responsibility for supervising least one subordine MSA team leader, supervisor, or equivalent administrive pient support staff in a non-VA medical inpient, outpient, or interdisciplinary setting. Assignments this level include, but are not limited to: evaluing the work of subordine staff; resolving complex problems to ensure pient services are met; evaluing new products, equipment, and systems to make recommendions for improved operions; identifying educional or training needs; making final decisions on hiring selections; evaluing performance, and taking disciplinary action when necessary. The employee has administrive and professional responsibility for planning and directing the subordine lead, supervisor, and MSA’s activities.
