Job Summary:
The Laboratory Assistant supports the operations of the clinical laboratory by performing specimen collection, processing, data entry, and basic laboratory procedures under the supervision of licensed laboratory personnel. This role is vital to maintaining workflow efficiency and ensuring accurate and timely diagnostic testing. Responsibilities Collects and labels specimens (e.g., blood, urine, swabs) following proper identification protocols and infection control standards. Prepares and processes specimens for testing, including centrifugation, and proper storage. Transports specimens to appropriate testing areas or external laboratories as needed. Performs data entry and test order verification within the laboratory information system (LIS). Stocks and maintains inventory of laboratory supplies. Cleans and disinfects work areas and equipment in compliance with safety regulations. Assists with clerical duties such as filing, faxing, and answering laboratory inquiries. Maintains confidentiality of patient records and adheres to all HIPAA and UF Health policies. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Completion of a Phlebotomy required. PBT (ASCP) or MLA (ASCP) certification is a plus. Previous experience in a clinical lab or healthcare setting is desirable. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
