A well-established and growing dermatology practice with two offices is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant with experience in histotechnology or Mohs lab support. This dual-role position supports both general dermatology care and Mohs surgical services, providing a unique opportunity to engage in direct patient care while also managing frozen tissue processing during skin cancer surgery days. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and passionate about patient care and technical precision. You must be comfortable working in both clinical and lab settings and available to travel between both practice locations as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

As a

Medical Assistant:

Assist providers with patient exams, biopsies, cosmetic and surgical procedures (e.g., Mohs, excisions, cryotherapy, laser). Take and record patient history, vital signs, and prepare for procedures. Provide pre- and post-treatment education and support to patients. Perform suture removals, dressing changes, and allergy testing. Maintain clean, stocked exam rooms and sterilize instruments. Document in EMR accurately, obtain patient photos and consents, and assist with pathology/lab requisitions. Communicate effectively with patients about treatments, follow-ups, and lab results. As a Mohs Histotechnician (on surgery days): Accession, embed, cut, and stain frozen tissue specimens for Mohs micrographic surgery. Ensure correct tissue orientation for accurate margins and diagnosis. Maintain logs, perform quality control checks, and ensure compliance with CLIA, OSHA, and HIPAA standards. Troubleshoot and maintain lab equipment and instruments. Monitor and restock lab supplies, maintain documentation for inspections, and support surgical flow.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required; Histotech certification highly preferred. Medical Assistant certification (CMA/RMA) preferred or willing to obtain. 2+ years experience in a medical office or surgical setting; dermatology or histology/Mohs experience highly preferred. Familiarity with EMR systems and CLIA lab protocols. Knowledge of OSHA and HIPAA guidelines. Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and ability to multitask in fast-paced settings. Comfortable with standing for long periods, handling tissue, and using lab equipment. Reliable transportation for commuting between both locations.
