Job Description
Lead Medical Assistant The Healthcare of Florida Kissimmee, FL 34741 Our Orthopedic practice is seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Medical Assistant to join our dynamic clinical team. This position requires a certified medical assistant with strong leadership capabilities and advanced administrative skills, including insurance verification, authorizations, referrals, billing, and coding. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, bilingual (preferred), and capable of managing daily clinical operations while ensuring exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
Room patients and record vital signs and medical history Assist orthopedic physicians with examinations and procedures Perform suture removals, casting assistance, brace fittings, and wound care Administer medications and injections as ordered Maintain exam room cleanliness and sterilization of instruments Prepare patients for X-ray procedures and operate imaging equipment
Administrative Duties:
Verify insurance eligibility and benefits Obtain prior authorizations for procedures, imaging, and medications Process and track referrals to specialists and physical therapy Submit documentation for workers’ compensation and personal injury cases Assist billing department with coding and documentation review Coordinate with front office staff on scheduling and follow-ups
Leadership Duties:
Train and mentor, a team of 4 medical assistants Serve as a liaison between clinical staff and management Ensure adherence to protocols, OSHA, and HIPAA compliance Monitor supply levels and assist in ordering clinical materials Support cross-training and team coverage efforts
Required Qualifications:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) BMO (Basic Machine Operator) or X-Ray Certification required Minimum 3 years of experience in a clinical orthopedic setting Knowledge of insurance plans, authorizations, referrals, and medical billing/coding Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred (Certified Medical Interpreter preferred)
Skills and Abilities:
Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities Strong knowledge of orthopedic terminology and procedures Proficient in electronic medical records (EMR) systems Superior communication and interpersonal skills Ability to lead, train, and support a clinical team
