Travel Support Specialist Medical Assistant

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES

Provides both administrative and clinical support functions to the physician clinics. This role will require the ability to provide care to a diverse patient population, in multiple clinic locations, with different teams. The ideal candidate demonstrates good judgment, organization skills, initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to be self-motivated. Must be adaptable and versatile as the role is responsible for many tasks. Good attendance is an important element of this role. Daily travel in the region is required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

(This list may not include all of the duties assigned.) Administrative Interviews patients and referring physician’s office personnel via telephone to establish the reason for the office appointment request. Obtains demographic information about the patient in order to create a new account or update existing information on patients who have established accounts. Schedules appointment for the patient per a particular physician’s or PA’s scheduling protocol. Confirms the date, time, physician or PA to be seen and gives directions to a particular office location as necessary. Obtains referral information and referral numbers for each patient who has an insurance plan that requires a referral. Greets patients and verifies patient information is filled out completely. Copies insurance cards and ID and scans in to patient’s chart. Enters insurance and demographics, when necessary. Checks referral numbers. Accepts X-rays and medical records for prospective new patients. Copies miscellaneous paper work for patients. Collects co-pays and outstanding balances from patients at the time of service. Processes payments via credit card machine, when necessary. Prepares charts correctly and put into bins for medical assistants. Balances cash drawer. Schedules follow-up appointments. Closes out patient encounters for each doctor/PA at the end of clinic. Maintains strictest confidentiality Places supply orders as instructed. Performs all other duties as assigned. Clinical Perform patient intake in clinic setting o Intake includes: § Manual BP, pulse, respirations, etc. § Height and Weight § Medication reconciliation with knowledge of Brand and generic name Diagnoses treated by medication Usual dosage and route Usual duration of therapy: acute, chronic, PRN § Assessment of pain level § Accurate collection of conservative treatment history § Accurate collection of diagnoses, medical history, family medical history, surgical history, etc. § Uploading diagnostic imaging studies from disc Assist physicians with injections, including the preparation of injections following sterile procedure Assist physicians with the application and removal of splints and casts Assist physicians with wound care including the undressing and redressing of surgical wound sites, staple and suture removal, minor in-clinic procedures Performs extensive pre-visit planning for clinic visits Utilizes the electronic medical record system for patient charting by o Entering patient demographics, medications, vitals, surgical history, family history, allergies, etc. o Reviewing and reconciling medications electronically o Entering and processing electronic orders for imaging, diagnostic studies, procedures, surgeries, etc. o Entering and processing RXs electronically o Creating and closing the loop on outgoing referral orders o Entering MIPS clinical patient data for quality measures o Reviewing and processing incoming clinical documents o Utilizing a patient portal for communication and document sharing Complete patient forms, including but not limited to; FMLA, STD, Workers’ compensation status, assistive devices, DME, etc. Performs scheduling duties for clinic visits, procedures and surgeries Performs precertification procedures for in-clinic procedures Handles phone calls, patient complaints, medications, etc. Upload, label and route hospital operation/surgical notes and dictation, and communicates with billing team effectively Preparing surgery documents including completion of the history and physical and consent forms Sanitizing all patient care areas between patients and the end of clinics Inventorying and stocking patient exam rooms Schedule depositions and physician meetings when needed Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION

1. High School Diploma 2. Medical Assistant Certificate (Preferred)

EXPERIENCE

5-8 years working in a physician clinic Knowledgeable of electronic medical records
