Part-Time Job Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and compassionate Shampooer/Kennel Assistant to join our veterinary hospital team. The Shampooer/Kennel Assistant is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and comfort of our animal patients, providing basic grooming services such as bathing, and assisting in the general care of animals in our kennels. This position is perfect for someone who loves working with animals, is detail-oriented, and enjoys keeping a clean and organized environment. While previous experience is a plus, we are willing to train the right candidate who is passionate about animal care.
Key Responsibilities:
Animal Care:
Provide gentle and thorough bathing and basic grooming services to dogs and cats, including brushing, nail trims, ear cleaning, and drying. Ensure animals in the kennel are fed, hydrated, and provided with a clean and comfortable environment. Assist with the handling and restraining of animals during baths or other procedures, ensuring their safety and comfort. Monitor animals in the kennel area, observing their behavior and reporting any signs of illness or distress to veterinary staff.
Kennel Maintenance:
Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, and animal enclosures following proper sanitation protocols to prevent the spread of disease. Wash and sanitize bedding, food bowls, and water dishes regularly. Ensure that the kennel area, grooming room, and other areas are kept clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies. Veterinary Team:
Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians with basic animal care tasks, as needed. Transport animals between the kennel area and exam rooms, treatment areas, or grooming stations safely and calmly. Assist with the maintenance of the clinic’s grooming and kennel supplies, such as shampoos, conditioners, and cleaning products.
Client Interaction:
Communicate with clients during drop-offs and pick-ups, providing information on grooming services or kennel care. Ensure that pets are returned to their owners clean, well-cared for, and with any relevant instructions from the veterinary staff.
Qualifications:
A love for animals and a desire to work in a veterinary or animal care setting. Ability to handle and restrain animals of varying sizes, breeds, and temperaments. Good communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude. Willingness to maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations. Basic knowledge of animal care is preferred, but not required; we will provide training. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working with animals in a kennel, grooming, or veterinary setting is a plus. Knowledge of basic grooming techniques (bathing, nail trimming) is preferred but not required.
