Job Overview:

The Cardiology Medical Assistant is responsible for providing clinical and administrative support to cardiologists and other healthcare professionals in a cardiology practice or clinic. The role involves performing a variety of tasks related to patient care, assisting with diagnostic testing, maintaining patient records, and ensuring the efficient operation of the cardiology department.

Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Support:

Assist cardiologists and healthcare providers with patient examinations and procedures. Take and record patients’ vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, respiration, etc.). Prepare patients for cardiology-specific tests, including EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, and Holter monitoring. Assist with performing and preparing diagnostic tests such as EKGs, stress tests, and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. Administer injections, medications, and vaccinations as directed by the physician. Perform basic wound care, dressings, and other minor procedures. Record medical histories, allergies, and patient concerns accurately in the medical records.

Patient Interaction:

Provide patient education on cardiology-related conditions, treatments, medications, and lifestyle modifications. Educate patients about diagnostic testing procedures and ensure they are comfortable throughout the process. Answer patients’ questions regarding their treatment plans or diagnostic tests and provide necessary explanations.

Administrative Support:

Schedule patient appointments and follow-ups in a timely manner. Prepare and maintain patient charts, ensuring all documentation is complete and up to date. Process patient intake forms, insurance verification, and patient billing information. Maintain and order medical supplies for the cardiology department. Assist with office tasks, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and processing patient intake forms.

Collaboration and Communication:

Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to ensure the best care. Maintain a clean and organized exam room environment. Coordinate with other healthcare providers for referrals, follow-ups, and necessary tests. Ensure HIPAA compliance and confidentiality in handling patient records and information.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a Medical Assistant program (certification preferred). Certification in Cardiovascular Technology or Medical Assisting (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant, preferably in cardiology or a related specialty. Familiarity with cardiology-specific diagnostic tests (EKGs, echocardiograms, etc.). Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently. Proficient in using electronic health record (EHR) systems. Knowledge of medical terminology, particularly in cardiology, is highly preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and sit for extended periods. Occasionally required to assist with patient mobility.

This position may involve working in a clinical or hospital setting, where the candidate will need to interact with patients, medical professionals, and staff. The role requires occasional exposure to medical equipment, medications, and patient care situations.
