Ortho Clinical Assistant Job Description General Statement of Duties:
Under administrative supervision, performs tasks necessary to assist physicians and orthopaedic staff in patient care. The work requires knowledge of office policies and procedures and a basic understanding of general orthopaedics and patient care. The position requires motivation and initiative to recognize areas of need and perform the tasks needed to provide excellent patient care. Employee must be motivated, adaptable, and efficient and must possess exemplary communication skills. Employee is primarily assigned to Benjamin Roby, PAC, but works with all physicians and staff as needed. Covering clinic shifts takes precedence over other daily clinic duties.
Essential Duties:
Performs clinical tasks as assigned such as rooming patients, checking vitals, preparing injections, and returning patient calls. Exercises excellent customer service when interacting with patients. Assists with office tasks such as cleaning instruments, stocking rooms, and completing paperwork. Checks and responds to voicemails and EHR messages in a timely manner. Thoroughly prepares charts for clinic by reviewing ahead of time and gathering necessary information prior to the patient’s visit. Assists other orthopaedic staff in clinic by entering reason for visit, history, and x-ray orders into the EHR system; assists physicians in clinic by entering data into assessment and plan, ordering tests or additional care through the EHR system. Assists in preparing surgical charts by posting cases, sending precertification requests, and organizing/collecting necessary preoperative paperwork. Assists in patient care with the application of casts, braces, and splints. Assists in patient care by scheduling of tests, treatments and referrals. Provides support to physicians and orthopaedic staff by filling in in various clinics as needed. Maintains confidentiality and HIPAA compliance. Assists in resolving problems encountered by employees or patients during the course of the assigned shift. Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients and coworkers. Resolves patient needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies. Performs full performance level professional clinical work and enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reviewing current literature, in-service meetings, workshops, and research. Maintains necessary professional licensure and certifications. Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
