Key Responsibilities:

Assist Nurse Practitioners, Physicians, and Nurses in patient care. Schedule appointments and verify patient insurance details. Triage patients, take vital signs, and record weight. Document pertinent health history, presenting complaints, and allergies in the Electronic Health Record. Administer screenings, such as the PHQ9, and collect financial information through Household Assessments. Process payments and manage bank deposits. Support behavioral health providers in patient management and care. Coordinate, track, and follow up on referrals and appointments. Answer phone calls and address patient needs promptly. Perform both clinical and administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a clinical and/or behavioral health setting. High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Certification or training from a stateapproved school as a Medical Assistant is required. Proficiency in EMR systems (1 year required). Experience taking vital signs (1 year required). BLS Certification preferred.

Governed by a consumer board and funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), EXCELth initially operated in New Orleans but expanded to include Baton Rouge after Hurricane Katrina to meet the primary care needs of displaced individuals. Today, EXCELth runs three health centers and a family dental center in Orleans Parish, in addition to a behavioral health program in East Baton Rouge Parish, effectively acting as a “medical home” for the community.
