SHIFT:
Monday – Friday, 7:30am -4:00pm
SUMMARY:
This position will provide clerical support and laboratory assistance to the pathologists on site at Woman’s Hospital. The position requires good judgment and decision-making skills, ability to be a team player, ability to work independently, and comfort working with computer systems. Employee must maintain a cooperative attitude and be supportive of on-going changes in the lab in a professional manner. Adheres to the policies and procedures set forth by PGL and Woman’s Hosopital Lab.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Works with pathologists and other Woman’s Hospital team members to expedite requests and resolve issues in an efficient manner. Act as a liason and runner between pathologists and Woman’s Hospital histology department Answers requests by Physicians and patients inquiring about the progress and status of Pathology reports, within the limits of PGL policies and confidentiality laws. Prepares appropriate forms in response to requests for send-out of patient materials and consultations. Properly distributes reports to clients, departments and physicians as requested. Fulfills Pathologists’ request for additional information needed to for accurate diagnosis, this includes but not limited to, retrieving radiology films and contacting outside facilities for reports. Returns medical records to the proper department/facility after preliminary report is placed in the patient’s medical records. Understands and maintains the organization of the filing systems; can retrieve documents in a timely fashion and knows how to initiate data retrieval if the information is not located in the file. Orders office supplies for the department and pathologists as needed and requested. Accurately pulls and organizes slides for pathologists’ Tumor conferences and weekly QA review. Assists with putting pathologists completed slides in order, filing, and returning empty slide folders to histology. Operates within the LIS and EMR systems which includes the following specific specimen task: case status, printing appropriate format of reports, printing reports to a printer or fax, entering case comments and looking up further information. Sends, receives, and distributes faxes as necessary. Other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Job Qualifications:
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required. Experience in a medical office or laboratory is preferred.

Knowledge in medical field is highly recommended. Must be able to adapt to changes in work schedule. Possess good analytical and problem solving skills, adjusting priorities as work requirements demand. Must be able to perform multiple tasks correctly and simultaneously. Must be able to work independently. Must possess good verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to work well with others. Must be strongly customer service oriented. Must demonstrate a high standard of confidentiality. Must be dependable and committed to excellent patient care.
