Our practice is a full-service provider of comprehensive bone, joint, and muscle care. Our goal is to continue our mission in providing our patients with the highest level of care and compassion they deserve in a personalized setting. We are looking for a professional, service-oriented team player to join our very busy Orthopedic practice in Kenner. As a full-time Medical Assistant, you will be the first point of contact and play an essential role in creating a welcoming and supportive environment. Candidates must be able to coordinate and track a variety of details to provide a seamless patient experience. The ideal candidate will have an excellent work ethic, be a quick learner, enjoy multi-tasking and staying organized, be flexible, and understand the importance of a positive, courteous and a professional attitude in the workplace. Great attention to detail and clear communication with patients are essential.

General Summary:

A non-exempt position responsible for daily patient flow for the practice for whom they work. Must use triage skills to make appropriate patient health assessments and to anticipate physician’s needs as they relate to the patients’ medical care. This position will require some traveling to all the surrounding clinics.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Prepare patients for exams and procedures as directed by the clinician. Interview patients, measure vital signs, and gather other necessary information, recording all details in the patient’s medical record. Review and reconcile medications, noting allergies and verifying current medications. Document discontinued medications in the visit notes. Assist in patient education by providing informational materials, aftercare instructions, or post-visit summaries, as instructed by the clinician or in line with company policies. Gather required documents and signatures to support the clinician in treatment decisions. Receive and record lab or radiology test results (including outside medical records) via phone or computer, ensuring results are added to the patient’s medical record before the visit. Relay clinician orders and instructions (e.g., medication refills) to pharmacies, patients, and other entities via computer, phone, fax, or mail. Ensure exam rooms are clean, stocked, and properly set up before each patient visit. Manage patient rooming and flow, including pre-visit preparations, assisting during the visit, and handling post-visit duties. Contribute to team efforts and assist with other tasks as needed. Provide excellent customer service, maintaining professionalism and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and clinic policies. Use customer service techniques to engage patients in a calm and pleasant manner. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred.

Experience:

Two or more years of experience in customer service or reception, preferably in a health care environment. Spanish speaking is required and knowledge of E-Clinical Works a plus.

Certifications/Training :

MA certification and FA/CPR preferred
