NATURE OF DUTIES
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – Cardiology Float provides clinical and administrative support across multiple CIS clinics and providers. This role ensures continuity of care by assisting with patient intake, vital signs, EKGs, medication reconciliation, and rooming, as well as supporting stress tests and other cardiac diagnostic procedures. The float CMA adapts quickly to different team environments, maintains high-quality patient service, and upholds cardiology-specific protocols and safety standards. Flexibility, clinical competence, and strong communication skills are essential to succeed in this dynamic role.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION
Current certification of one of the following: CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant) certified through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), RMA (Registered Medical Assistant )certified through American Medical Technologists (AMT), CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) certified through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or NCMA (National Certified Medical Assistant) certified through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Basic Life Support Certification Effective Communication Skills
SPECIFIC DUTIES
: The Cardiovascular Medical Assistant job duties include but are not limited to: Assist the nursing staff with gathering pertinent patient information for provider visits including chief complaint, medication list and/medication containers and reviews to assist with reconciliation of medications, allergies, vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, pulse oximetry, patient weight, BMI, subjective information, social and family history, smoking status, and assist with obtaining/reviewing medical records for provider visits. Communicates concerns/and or problems to nursing staff/provider. With guidance from the nursing staff, participates in patient care by utilizing CPOE to carry out physician orders thru the electronic EMR. These include scheduling of diagnostic testing, laboratory work, Electrocardiograms, patient discharge, etc. Participates in patient and family education/explanation related to diagnostic testing performed in the clinic setting (Nuclear/PET/Stress Testing/US/Echo/Vein/ Labs/Coumadin/holter monitors/event recorders) With guidance from the nursing staff, assist with filling out forms related to Home Health request, attending physician statements, employee medical leave, work/doctors excuses, handicap license etc. Draws blood (veni-puncture and finger-sticks for PT/INR). Correctly fills out the lab requisition forms completely and with proper ICD-10 codes. Performs Electrocardiograms. Explains the procedure to the patient. Operates all EKG machines. Applies holter/event/mobile telemetry monitors and explains the purpose of the procedure, and instructions for wearing and care of machine to the patient. Initializes and uploads holter monitors. Also cleans and maintains holter monitors. Place telemetry monitors on patients and instruct them. Performs the weekly OSHA checklist. Completes weekly stocking of supplies in exam rooms, nuclear prep, ETT prep, and cleans patient rooms weekly which includes wiping down counter tops in the prep rooms. Assists nurses by moving patients to test areas, assisting patients with mobility, helping admit patients, assisting patients from the car into wheelchairs when needed, and occasionally bringing patients to the hospital in a wheelchair. Performs other related duties as assigned and serves in whatever other capacity deemed necessary for successful completion of the mission and goals of CIS and in concordance with its patient philosophy. Fills out nuclear patient forms, checking for proper indications, physician orders and checking insurance to see if pre-certification is needed. Obtains consents when necessary. Creates accurate and complete patient care reports and enters electronic messages to other departments to assist with patient flow and document patient wait times. Ability to travel to provide CMA coverage to the CIS clinic in need. Receptionist/Clerical Duties 1. Answer phones, schedule appointments, check-in and check-out patients, call patients as needed to make appointments, follow-up with no show appointments, correspond with patients regarding appointments, and greet patients or customers in a friendly, professional manner. Obtain, complete registration and present the medical chart in order for the physicians/providers, nurses and medical staff to care for the patient and document in the record. Assist physicians with changes in schedules and confirming daily schedules. Enter electronic messages to other departments to assist with patient flow and document patient wait times. Perform appropriate and accurate documentation in the medical record as is applicable to patient service duties. 2. Provide billing department with clear copy of insurance cards and current demographic information. Check medical charts to ensure that insurance verifications are current and available for other personnel. Maintain HIPAA privacy and security and provide the CIS Notice of Privacy Practices to new patients or to any who request it. 3.
