Under thesupervision of the Pathologists, this job performs grossexamination of surgical specimens and assists the Pathologists inall areas except for consultation and reporting of specimens;maintains confidentiality of patient related information. - Bachelor’s degree in Science orrelated field Preferred
- Master’s degree as Pathologist’sAssistant Work Experience Required
- None. Two year acceptabletraining program (Medical school training, such as a non U.S.Medical School may be considered equivalent upon review) KnowledgeSkills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Must have computer skills anddexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patientinformation.
- Effective verbal and written communication skillsand the ability to present information clearly and professionallyto varying levels of individuals throughout the patient careprocess.
- Must be proficient with Windows-style applications,various software packages specific to role and keyboard
- Goodcommunication skills

- Receives and processes surgical specimens; verifies patient,container and cassettes for proper identification and accessionnumbers.
- Reviews requisition for pertinent information and isable to discern and select the appropriate section of tissuedescribing measurements and contents submitted per cassette.
- Correctly orients tissue; utilizes dye or ink to mark marginalareas of interest, submitting thin sections properly oriented incassette.
- Clear concise dictation; utilizes clear, understandableconcise descriptions of specimens including any notes of decals, ofpieces submitted, send outs or special procedures.
- Preparesfrozen sections for staff pathologist, properly orienting,sectioning and staining slides with CAP guidelines.
- Takes grossphotographs of appropriate specimens.
- Documents quality assuranceincidences, resolves specimen problems within 24 hours;consistently submits thin well-fixed tissue sections; assistssupervisor in implementing and collecting data for performanceimprovement projects.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patientpopulation, including but not limited to: respect for privacy,method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation ofservices or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions andcommunication style.
