Hours:

40 hoursa week, Monday-Friday 830am-5pm.

In addition, this role focuseson performing the following Nursing Support duties: Provides basiccare services to patients, but does not have an RN or LPN license.

Positions in this nursing support work under the direction ofphysicians, mid-level practitioners, and may work under thedirection of registered nurses depending on their unit. A clinicaltechnologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gainedthrough a combination of vocational education, training, andexperience. This role will be most commonly applied to patient careand/or scientific/laboratory jobs. An experienced level rolerequiring basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtainedthrough work experience and requiring vocational or technicaleducation . Works under moderate supervision, works throughproblems of a routine nature, but may at times requireinterpretation or deviation from standard procedures andcommunicates information that requires some explanation orinterpretation. Job Overview Under general supervision of licensedpersonnel, this position responsible for continuous, efficient andsmooth patient flow in the outpatient/ambulatory setting . Theposition is a patient liaison through both clinical andadministrative responsibilities . This position plays an importantrole in in the hospital’s revenue cycle process, clinicaloperations, and patient experience. Th is position is responsibleto respond to hourly variations in patient volume, clinician androom availability to continually maximize efficient use of spaceand resources in the clinic; identifies and provides necessaryclinical and administrative preparation pertaining to patient careaccording to protocols; assists with patient care as warranted andwithin their scope of practice .

Job Description MinimumQualifications :

1. High School Diploma or equivalent 2. MedicalAssistant (MA) certification or obtain within 6 months of hire 3.One (1) year of medical office experience or physician officeexperience 4. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Preferred Qualifications :

1. Two ( 2 ) year of medical officeexperience 2. Phlebotomy Certification 3. Bi-Lingual 4. Experiencewith electronic patient record systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended todescribe the general nature of work and are not intended to be anall-inclusive list . Other duties and responsibilities may beassigned. 1. Controls and monitors patient flow to maximizeefficient use of providers and exam rooms. Communicates delays topatients and provers. Responds to variations in patient volume,provider ability, and resources ( e.g. early arrivals, no shows,providers who are absent, etc.) by making continual adjustments inroom utilization and assignment. 2. Prepares medical record forpatient visit , confirming accuracy with patient identifiers,entering chief complaint and social history. This may requireinterviewing the patient to obtain data. 3. Exercises a high degreeof customer service in all interactions with patients, internal andexternal customers. Provides a safe, comfortable, and cleanenvironment for patients and families. 4. Assists provider, patientand patient’s family with admitting patient into the hospital .Makes out clothing list and facilitates smooth transition toinpatient unit. 5. Escorts patient to exam room and preparespatient for provider visit . This may include pediatric, adult,geriatric patients . Checks to ensure patient comfort, privacy, andsafety. 6. Ensures patient and personal safety . Determines fallrisk and implements appropriate measures . May sit with a patientwho needs monitoring . 7. Prepares exam room for each patient inaccordance with needs of patient’s visit. 8. Assists and/orchaperones providers/nursing with physical exams, treatments andprocedures as necessary . 9. Performs and records vital signs(blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height and weight), recordspatient’s stated level of pain, and reviews list of medicationswith patient. 10. Performs collection of specimens and/or ensuresthe necessary supplies and equipment are ready for the provider touse during the visit. 11. Performs Point of Care Testing (POC) asordered including Urine dips, HCG testing, Strep A, HGB A1C, andglucose testing. 12. May be required to perform phlebotomy. 13.Assists in arranging for diagnostic testing, surgery and in-patientadmissions under direction of the nurse or physician . 14. Assistswith patient billing by ensuring CPT code, diagnosis code and allsupplies and procedures are indicated on charting. 15. Ensuresoutside paperwork is scanned into patient’s electronic medicalrecord. Processes and tracks referrals and prior authorizations asrequested / ordered by provider. Notifies provider of patientrequests for referrals and prescription renewals. 16. Uses propertechniques and procedures for hazardous waste disposal, universalprecautions and for body mechanics . Maintains clinic roomsaccording to infection control and cleaning policies. 17 . Stocks ,maintains and rotates supplies in clinic rooms daily according toclinic demands . Monitors expiration dates. Monitors supplyinventory for clinic and orders supplies as needed . Maintainsequipment. 18. Participates in unit specific quality improvementprojects i.e. hand washing audits, time-outs,refrigerator/medication logs, daily/monthly code cart checks. 19.Provides administrative support which may include coordinatinginterpreter services, answering telephone calls, taking accurateand messages, forwarding messages, and faxing.

PhysicalRequirements :

1. F requent standing and walking for up to 80% ofthe work day or shift. 2. Some lifting, pushing or pullingrequired. 3. Occasional stress and pressure caused by multiplesimultaneous demands. 4. Exposed to various body fluids along withexposure to infectious disease and sharps. 5. Occasional requeststo change work areas to cover another priority area to meet patientneeds. 6. Frequent contact with patients, families, visitors,nurses and other department staff.

Skills & Abilities:

1.Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail required. Ability to prioritize work and complete tasks in a timely manner. 2. Ability to work independently and accurately with excellentfollow-through. 3. Basic to moderate computer skills includingdocuments, spreadsheets, e-mail and automated scheduling softwareand the ability to navigate through hospital-based computersystems. 4. Ability to read, write and spell in English to ensureaccurate message taking. 5. Knowledge of business math, ability tomake calculations and analytical skills required . 6. Goodinterpersonal skills. 7. Knowledge and ability to use universalprecautions and knowledge of patient handling . 8. Ability tocomplete and pass competency exams in waived test list forpractice. 9. Ability to maintain sensitive and confidentialinformation. 10. S kills and knowledge necessary to provide care topatients throughout the life span, with consideration of agingprocesses, human development stages and cultural patterns in eachstep of the care process.

Knowledge of growth anddevelopment ; Ability to interpret age specific data and responseto care ; and Provide age specific communication . 11. Ability tomaintain sensitive and confidential patient information accordingto HIPPA.
