Req #: 31812 This program is a collaborative effort between MaineHealth and Southern Maine Community College (SMCC). The program will begin in July; with classes held at the Brunswick Campus one day per week (Friday’s) and 24 hours per week of on-the-job training in one of our ambulatory physician practices. New Employee Orientation for Mid Coast Hospital will be on scheduled prior to class start date.
This is a 40 hour per week position that includes 24 hours of on-the-job training.

Your Role:

TheMedical Assistant Apprenticeis a training position who functions alongside a mentor and not meant to function independently, outside the scope of their certification. The apprentice will assist providers and the care team in the care of patients, promoting a smooth flow of patients through the office and help to create a calm, supportive atmosphere. The Apprentice will only perform set skills that they have been completed in their skills lab with a passing grade and are qualified to perform alongside a mentor. These skills will include clinical and clerical duties as necessary to care for patients. They will be required to pay attention to details and accuracy, conduct all interactions with patients and personnel in a courteous and respectful manner while maintaining confidentiality. The Apprentice is required to conduct all responsibilities consistent with policies, procedures, and in compliance with all applicable law mandates relating to patient care and activities.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Education:

High School diploma or GED preferred. Active enrollment and advancement with a grade of C or better in an approved Medical Assisting Apprenticeship Program required.

License/Certifications:

Current BLS certification required or must be obtained prior to clinical training. NH Med Tech License is required for those positions located in New Hampshire.
