Annual Salary:
GS-3: $42,498 to $55,241 GS-4: $45,047 to $58,568 GS-5: $49,252 to $64,022 Major MSA Duties include but are not limited to: Reviews, processes, and verifies paper and computerized medical records, ensuring admission/transfer/discharge orders are written correctly. Alerts physicians for corrections to admitting/transfer/discharge orders are needed to ensure the orders are administrively correct. Support physicians and nurses in all administrive aspects of the pient’s care. Prepares inpient hard chart with approprie labeling of allergies, advance directive, Durable Power of Attorney, isolion, organ donor. Responsible for upding bed changes in the computerized chart, the pient locion board, and the computerized Bed Management System (BMS). Notifies nursing of all st orders, pient movements, works closely with Bed Control to facilite pient flow throughout the wards and units. Prepares discharge paperwork, notifies physician if outpient consults need to be entered to ensure pient has proper follow up after discharge. Schedules follow up appointments in their assigned primary care clinics according to discharge instructions. Arranges travel when needed for transfer to or appointments other facilities. Prepares paperwork for transfers to other VA’s or outside facilities, ensuring physician has completed all required inter-facility transfer forms, and fee basis consults. Monitors the 24 – 48hr observions, notifying the physician 3-4 hours before the 48hr time expires of the need to discharge or convert the pient to a full admit. Answers phones, directing calls to the proper clinician or department as needed. Works closely with other departments, as well as other facilities, to make sure the pient is sent for exams/procedures ordered.

Basic Requirements :
Citizenship. Citizen of the United Stes. Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrive work th indices the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR Educion . One year above high school; OR Experience/Educion Combinion. Equivalent combinion of experience and educion are qualifying for entry level for which both educion and experience are acceptable. Certificion . None required. English Language Proficiency. MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3.j. Creditable Experience Knowledge of MSA Practices. To be creditable, the experience must have demonstred the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) associed with current MSA responsibilities or an equivalent administrive pient support role in a non-VA medical inpient or outpient setting. Experience sisfying this requirement may be paid/non-paid employment as an MSA or an equivalent position in a non-VA hospital or clinic setting. Quality of Experience. Qualifying experience must be a level comparable to MSA experience or equivalent administrive clinical support role in a non-VA medical inpient or outpient setting the next lower grade level. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, administrive independence, complexity (difficulty), and a range of varieties as described in this standard, the specified grade level and be performed by the incumbent least 25% of the time. Part-Time Experience. Part-time experience as an MSA or equivalent administrive pient support in a non-VA medical inpient or outpient setting is creditable according to its relionship to the full-time workweek. For example, an MSA employed 20 hours a week, or on a 1/2-time basis, would receive one full-time workweek of credit for each two weeks of service.
