This is a physically demanding position requiring the individual to bend, stoop, crouch, twist, kneel and lift up to 200 lbs. up to 8″ occasionally. Since 1996, we’ve provided compassionate, safe, and timely transport. Our goal is to transport any passenger – no matter what disabilities or challenges they may face. We take great pride in transporting our passengers to their desired destination. EMT serves organizations in the St. Louis, Missouri metro and surrounding areas, including neighboring areas in Illinois, as well as Cumberland, Maryland. These organizations include school districts, hospitals, doctor’s offices, and more. We also transport individuals and families to and from appointments or simply when they need a ride.
Position Summary:
The Medical Transportation Assistant helps to provide safe and compassionate transportation assistance to passengers with mobility challenges. This position involves the use of wheelchairs and stretchers to facilitate the smooth and secure transfer of patients to and from vehicles and medical facilities. The assistant is responsible for ensuring the comfort and safety of passengers during transit while adhering to company policies and safety regulations.
Essential Functions:
Assist loading and unloading of passengers. Assure each wheelchair or stretcher is properly secured using appropriate tie downs and is in a locked, stable position. Ensure the safety of passengers by helping them with seat belts and other safety devices as needed. Provide information regarding schedules, stops, and routes to passengers as needed. Handle special requests and aid passengers with disabilities or those requiring additional support. Monitor passenger behavior to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies. Communicate with Drivers, Dispatchers, and Operations Supervisors as needed to coordinate efficient operations. Respond to emergencies and unexpected situations effectively, following established protocols. Provide excellent customer service, addressing passenger concerns and questions politely and effectively. Ensure all necessary equipment for passenger assistance is available and in good working order, i.e. safety straps, seatbelts, wheelchair/stretcher securement devices. Attend training sessions and meetings to stay updated on job-specific knowledge and skills. Collaborate with other team members to improve the overall passenger experience. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Must be able to perform the strenuous, physical requirements of the position. Must be 21 years old or older. Must successfully pass both an FBI criminal record check and drug screening.
Education:
Highschool Diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Proven experience in customer service or in a similar role. Familiarity with safety and emergency procedures. First Aid, AED and CPR certification preferred.

Normal Working Conditions:
This position requires the Medical Transportation Assistant to be a passenger in a moving vehicle for the majority of the time. While the vehicle provides some protection from weather and elements, frequent exposure to all elements of weather such as wind, rain, snow, and high heat and humidity are common. Additionally, exposure to bodily fluids should be expected.
