Theyprovide support to nursing, lab, clerical, and Physician staff inorder to facilitate positive patient outcomes. Clinical knowledgeand skills relate to newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, andgeriatric populations. Participation in a Clinical Orientation andCompetency Evaluation, and ability to pass a Clinical SkillsAssessment and Medication Administration test within ninety (90)days of hire, and within 3 attempts.

PRNResponsibilities:

Provides direct patient care as delegated by theMD and according to standard plans of care appropriate to thepatient’s condition, needs, and/or age and under the supervision ofthe MD/APP. Assists in collection of data including biological,psychological, social, and cultural factors. Enters data, such asvital signs and implements the plan of care as directed by theMD/APP. During patient office visit, implements protocols/standingorders based on patient complaint or reason for visit. Takes verbalorders from the provider and documents them appropriately. Performs12-lead EKGs, select respiratory care procedures and other assignedpatient care for which adequate training has been provided and forwhich competencies have been demonstrated. Instructs patient incollection of samples and tests. Under the direction of supervisingphysicians, may administer oral and parenteral medications (exceptfor IV) including immunizations, controlled substances, therapeuticinjections, skin tests and treatments, and other treatmentmodalities according to specified policies and procedures andmedical assisting standards. Documents all administrationsaccurately and in a timely manner. Completes prior authorizationsfor medications as needed and communicates physician prescriptionsto pharmacies by phone and fax as needed. Huddles with the providerand care team members prior to clinic to complete pre-visitpreparation. Initiates and reinforces patient teaching from plandetermined by the MD/APP, including the discharge summary/AVS.Assists with scheduling patient appointments, tests, admissions andfollow-through with physician orders. Obtains all appropriate priorauthorization or pre-certification for patients. Utilizes websitesor payer hotlines to verify if an authorization is required for anyservice. Carries out referral orders to other specialty offices,performing required documentation and coordination. Coordinatestests with schedulers, pre-certification staff, and patients andtheir families. Oversees appointment bookings, ensuring preferencesare given to patients in emergency situations. Maintains timelyflow of patients. Provides accurate, complete, and timelydocumentation of all medical assistant procedures in the medicalrecord. Assists with the preparation of equipment, exam rooms, andlaundry. Restocking examination areas as necessary. Cleaning roomsweekly. Demonstrates through knowledge and practice, principles ofinfection control and universal precautions, adherence to OSHAstandards, JCAHO standards and Hazardous Material guidelines.

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or equivalent,Required Diploma/Certificate in Medical Assistant Program,Preferred

EXPERIENCE

2 years Healthcare – Certified MedicalAssistant (CMA), Preferred Physician Office Experience, Preferred

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING
REQUIRED:

BLS(CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider

REQUIRED

Current and active certification as a medical assistant by one ofthe following: American Allied Health (AAH), American Associationof Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical CertificationAssociation (AMCA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), NationalCenter for Competency Testing (NCCT), National HealthcareerAssociation (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (RMA),National Healthcare Worker’s Association (NHCWA), NationalAssociation for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Registry ofMedical Assistants (NRMA).
