COUNTY RURAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE

: Medical Assistant

BASIC JOB PURPOSE

Assist with direct clinic services in the assigned department.

SUPERVISION

Reports directly to the Nursing Supervisor

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasional lifting and carrying items up to 25 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range Requires working under stressful condition or working occasional irregular hours Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medical preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

ALL INCLUDED

) Obtaining patient’s weight, height, and vitals Obtaining medical histories Recording chief complaint as stated by the patient Preparing exam room for provider Stocking rooms with supplies at end of day (checklist) Assist provider as needed during the patient exam or procedure Administers medication per BCRHA policy and procedures for medical assistants At the direction of the provider of following a written provider order, obtains education materials for the patient. Calls in prescriptions, following written provider orders. Complete labs and diagnostic testing request and makes stat referrals according to provider’s order. Takes an active role in quality improvement efforts to serve as a participating member of

team. Serves as an integral part of provider(s) care team to assist with pre-visit planning, care management and other care team duties as assigned. Documents in the EHR according to BCRHA policy and procedure. The employee will perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned from time to time by the CEO (e.g. health fairs, workshops, seminars, meetings, etc.).

Skills and knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment. Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments and medications as directed. Skills in taking vitals. Skills in maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times. Skills in establishing and maintaining working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to read, understand, and respond to detailed oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate clearly.

EDUCATION

: High school diploma or medical assistant certificate

EXPERIENCE

: One year of work experience, preferably in a medical office setting.

Certification:

Certification as a medical assistant is required.
