Overview:
The Medical Assistant Certified provides team-basedpatient care as directed by the Provider and according to standardplans of care appropriate to the patient’s condition, needs, and/orage. Working under close supervision, this role provides support tonursing, lab, clerical, and Physician staff in order to facilitatepositive patient outcomes and care.
Responsibilities:
Assists incollection of patient data including biological, psychological,social, and cultural factors.
Enters data, such as vital signs andimplements the plan of care as directed by the Provider.
Implementsprotocols/standing orders based on patient complaint or reason forvisit.
Performs 12-lead EKGs, select respiratory care procedures andother assigned patient care for which adequate training has beenprovided and for which competencies have beendemonstrated.
Administers oral and parenteral medications includingimmunizations, controlled substances, therapeutic injections, skintests and treatments, and other treatment modalities according tospecified policies and procedures and medical assisting standards,under the direction of supervising physicians.
Completes priorauthorizations for medications as needed and communicates physicianprescriptions to pharmacies by phone and fax as needed.
Overseesappointment bookings, ensuring preferences are given to patients inemergency situations and maintains timely flow of patients.
Providesaccurate, complete, and timely documentation of all medicalassistant procedures in the medical record.
Obtains all appropriateprior authorization or pre-certification for patients in order tocomply with safety standards.
Communicates patient condition,questions, and concerns to nursing staff and physician in order totriage and respond to messages appropriately.
Performs other dutiesas assigned.

American Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American MedicalTechnologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT),National Health career Association (NHA), American Registry ofMedical Assistants (RMA), National Healthcare Worker’s Association(NHCWA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP),National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA), American MedicalCertification Association (AMCA)BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHAHealthcare Provider. Participation in a clinical orientation,competency evaluation, and ability to pass a clinical skillsassessment and medication administration test within ninety (90)days of hire, and within 3 attempts.
