Charlotte, NC 28210 Summary The Mohs Medical/Surgical Assistant is to provide assistance to medical doctors in both surgical and medical settings. Provide safe, knowledgeable, compassionate individualized care to all patients.

Responsible for the following:
Job Responsibilities:

Serve as a patient advocate during patient exam, surgery and treatment
Review medical history an confirm purpose of visit
Escort patient to exam or surgical room
Review and obtain surgical informed consent with the patient prior to their procedure
Take appropriate photographs
Obtain and record patients’ medical history, medications, allergies, vital signs and test results in an Electronic Health Record (EHR)
Prepare and set up sterile surgical tray
Prepare patient for Mohs surgery, including prepping the area, properly numb by local anesthetics as directed by the physician, and preparing instruments for surgery
Collect blood, tissue or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing
Provide patient care and help assist physician during surgical procedure as directed
Educate and provide post wound care instructions to patient
Under physician direction, authorize drug refills, enter prescription information into the EHR, and provide prescription information to pharmacies
Scribe surgical and office visits
Sterilize surgical instruments and operate autoclave
Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms organized and clean
Disposes of infection waste and biohazard materials
Provide adequate safety precautions
Schedule appointments and coordinate any additional care
Change wound dressing
Accept triage phone calls from patients and document
Perform suture removals
Notify patient of all results
Learn to cut and prepare frozen tissue by the Mohs micrographic surgery
Inventory and assess the need for instruments, sutures, medical supplies and equipment
Perform accurate documentation of all procedures
Respond to emergency situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
Performs medical assistant duties as required for non-Mohs patients, as part of the dermatology practice

Minimum Qualifications:

One (1)+ year experience in a medical setting, required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements
Knowledge of medical terminology
Knowledge of sterile technique, anatomy, and medications
Detail oriented, professional attitude, reliable
Management and organizational skills to support the leadership of this function
Ability to follow or provide verbal & written instructions with sufficient grammar and spelling skills
Interpersonal skills
Ability to carry teammate needs and a supportive work culture
Analytical ability for basic to intermediate problem solving
Basic to intermediate understanding of EHR programs and computer operating systems
Understanding of HIPAA guidelines
