Internal to an agency Internal to an agency Videos Duties The Medical Support Assistant supports pient safety standards through correct identificion of all pients through use of two forms of identificion, Veterans Identificion Card (VIC) and full Social Security Number. He/she must use each interaction with the pient to valide and upde pient demographic informion, either in person during check-in or over the phone, to decrease the incidence of returned mail due to incorrect addresses. Incumbent must be able to interpret and communice requirements of VHA Scheduling Directives and complete accure scheduling responsibilities: Schedule appointments and utilize the Electronic Waiting List accurely in a timely manner. All appointments made with the pient’s input, either in person or by phone. This may require a high level of coordinion to avoid pients having to make multiple trips to the medical center whenever possible. Notifies his/her supervisor when clinic access is less than desirable or if an individual pient cannot be scheduled within manded clinic timeframes. Daily review of active/pending consults, Electronic Wait List, Recall list and Audio care communicions for accuracy and disposition. Contacts professional staff to obtain informion necessary to respond to requests when not readily available in the record. Coordines the completion of various forms, to include but not limited to insurance forms, request for handicap placards, family leave act and work releases Obtains medical records from non-VA providers as requested by providers and/or pients. Responsible for ensuring non-VA records are forwarded to the approprie provider for review prior to inclusion into the pient’s medical record. Responds to urgent or emergent written (faxed) requests for medical informion from hospitals and/or doctors.
